I was looking to try some binoculars but was having particular difficulty in finding a place local to me that stocked a variety for comparison prior to purchasing.
My dad a bird watcher for over 40years found feathers on google. I made a telephone call to Joe & Allan to see stock availability.
I attended feathers the next day around an hour drive, it’s easy to find and in a great location with good parking and facilities. I was warmly greeted and offered a nice coffee.....
Joe and Allan are both great guys with a genuine passion for birdwatching. Joe has exceptional knowledge in the products on offer and feathers have a great range varying in price from beginners level up to the higher end equipment.
I had a list of a few options, Joe was very helpful and allowed me to try all the different options, no pushy sales just relaxed and informative advice.
I came away with a totally different product than I planned and was extremely happy with the service and price.
I would highly recommend a trip to see Allan and Joe at Feathers for Your birding equipment.
I’m sure we will be revisiting at some point........
Kind regards Matt Kennett
Many thanks for your assistance (and coffee) last Saturday when my wife and I visited to choose a pair of binoculars for bird and general wildlife spotting. We came away feeling that we had made the right choice that suited us, the cost was right in the middle of the range we expected and our visit easily justified travel from Canterbury. Fortunately it was a dry bright day so we could sit outside and Allan plied us with a comprehensive range of binoculars to try. Having a real outdoor scene (not just roofs, chimney pots and shop fronts) to view, made it a very useful experience. There were no time pressures and as we eliminated binoculars which we felt were not right for us, Allan provided further helpful advice. Finally, we tried a real ‘top end’ pair – yes they were superior to the ones we had finally chosen, but we remained convinced that our choice was right for us.
Again, many thanks, John Burton
I almost never write reviews or feed back to shops or suppliers. If I get decent service I buy stuff and if I don't I take my custom elsewhere! That said, I had a blast this morning when I came into buy some binoculars. Several different models to test drive, no hassle or rush, just detailed knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of each model and an obvious wish to help me find the best buy - both quality and price - for me. I can't thank you enough an I'm sure we'll get many years of great use out of the Opticron Countryman binoculars that I (eventually) went for. I will be singing your praises for some time to come..
Very best wishes, Dr Rick Carter
Thank you so much for your help with the purchase of the Swarovski CL Pocket Binoculars today. It was a long journey but well worth the effort. Having the opportunity to browse over a much appreciated cuppa and take our time looking and thinking about what to purchase was time well spent. I’m certain Linda will have many hours of fun playing with her new toy! Can I say again that it is an absolute pleasure to do business with someone so courteous and helpful. On the journey home Linda remarked how you made no attempt to "sell" us anything at all and nor did you pressure us into making a decision, which we really appreciated. Also, from my perspective (before retiring I was Head of Trading Standards in Essex) it is nice to find a business so committed to delivering a high quality service to customers and willingly going that extra mile to help. As you might imagine much of my career was spent dealing with businesses that were at the opposite end of the spectrum!
Kind regards and very best wishes, Malcolm
Just purchased these fantastic Vortex binoculars and spent the afternoon really enjoying the clarity and control that they provide. What a great selection at Feathers which allowed me to compare and review a number of makes and models without any pressure to purchase. The sales team also provided useful advice. A big thank you to all at Feathers. Regards, Nick. PS thanks for the coffee.
Hi, Just a quick message to say how impressed I am with the service you offer. Last weekend I spoke with Joe who was most helpful on the phone and took time to talk me through some issues regarding buying a set of binoculars. He even explained that a cheaper version would probably be more than sufficient for my needs (but as these were to be a present I actually went for the more expensive ones) The binoculars were ordered at the weekend, dispatched Monday and arrived today- thanks. Can I just say it has been a pleasure to deal with you in every respect, the service I have received has been second to none. Mike Lyons
Thank you for the binoculars. They arrived safely and I presented them to my wife on Friday in a hide at Dungeness! She was using her old bins when I passed them to her and suggested she try these. She said, "whose are these?" I said, "Yours". To say she was delighted would be an understatement! She could see the colours like never before. She was also touched by your kindness in giving her a pin and scarf in the Swarovski logo. So thankyou again, Andy Edney.
I went to Feathers this morning knowing exactly what I "thought" I wanted binocular wise. After being greeted by Joe and him kindly giving both myself and my partner a hot chocolate and cup of coffee we had the cabinet (which was FULL of binoculars) opened and I was able to try out every sort of binocular you could ask for: shape, size, weight, price & even colour! I spent an hour and a half trying all of them and learning so much that I didn't know. Joe's knowledge, experience and brilliant personality was wonderful and so helpful. You can leave Feathers knowing full well that Joe and Allan have your full interests at heart and the product /s you leave with will be perfect for you and not just selling you the most expensive binocular!! Thank you so much Joe for everything today, we had a great afternoon and I left with a wonderful pair of binoculars that I haven't put down since getting home!!! Thank you!!! Tom & Kat, Brighton
I would like to thank you firstly for your excellent plain English reviews on binoculars. I have had the Hawke pair for a couple of months now. They have been outstanding in all respects, having been thoroughly tested in all weather conditions in and around the Tamar Valley, Cornwall. Many thanks again. Martin Williams
Hello Allan and Joe
Mike and I came over to meet you both a couple of week-ends ago. I finally chose a pair of Hawke 8.5x42 binoculars after nearly two hours of deliberation!!! We had a great three days break in Scotland watching the Ospreys. I thought of you both while I was there. The binoculars have proved to be fantastic and this is just to thank you for all the patience and guidance on that day. The bird feed I bought has also proved to be a winner with the garden birds and I shall be out again shortly for further stocks AND a coffee if I can scrounge one.
Again I am so delighted and many thanks to you both.
Kind regards, Lynn and Mike Simmonds, Uckfield
Just popped in to say a big THANK YOU for a wonderful shopping experience.
A couple of weeks ago you very kindly picked me up from the local train station and then administered a much needed cup of tea before loading me up with arms full of binoculars. I was then shown to the most wonderful hide and bird garden I have ever been in, and left alone to play with the them at my leisure.
The surroundings were beautiful, as was the weather and I was faced with an extremely busy bird haven, it was hard to choose what to focus on first, but focus I did. Long distance, short distance, birds, far off fences and flowers. After much deliberation I had a short list of 2 with a leaning to one in particular and was awarded with a lovely glass of Ginger Beer for my troubles (spiffing) on my return. Taking your advice I stuck with the pair that 'felt' right even though it was lower than the price I had budgeted to pay.
It was definitely the right decision.
I have just had a wonderful couple of days birding with my brand new bins and they didn't let me down. From a Black Kite, a Montagu's Harrier and a Crane (yes! a Crane!) in the distance, to a Wood Warbler high in a tree and a Firecrest in a bush a couple of feet away. They were light, with exceptional clarity and easy to use, just what I wanted.
I am delighted with my purchase and appreciate the time and assistance I was given to allow me to make the right choice. It was a great way to shop.
Next on my shopping list is a Digiscope , a good birding Point and Shoot Camera and assorted Birding Attire....let me know when you get them in guys and I'll be along to try to them out.
